Life is Precious...

I’m sure by now we have all by now heard the sad news about Haiti and the devastating effects of the earthquake on the country...These are individuals who had very little to begin with and have lost so much more now... It is so sad.

My thoughts are with those involved and I hope and pray the Lord gives the survivors and the families of those no longer with us the strength to get through their difficult time and also the will power to keep them going during their difficult recovery process.

The current spotlight of this heartbreaking situation has made me realise something that we as individuals (including myself) seem to forget sometimes and that is...
LIFE IS PRECIOUS!

It seems in life we all get so consumed with our own lives that we seem to forget that there is a world out there that is far more complex and hard to understand in comparison to our own “complicated” lives. (And I use that word loosely)

There are millions of people who go through things EVERY single day that we couldn’t even possibly imagine going through...Just makes you think...does it?!

Tragedies such as the Haiti earthquake and Hurricane Katrina should be a time for us to reflect and allow us to
REMEMBER the IMPORTANT things in lives. Our families/friends, our health etc. We should be grateful for what we have, I know sometimes this can be hard when everything seem to be going wrong in our lives and it all seems like it is getting too much for us to handle BUT we need to remember how much these individuals have lost and be happy and thankful for what we have!

We should count the blessings we have in our lives...

We also need to accept the fact that life is hard but it is how we deal with it that counts. When we overcome the hardships that occur we must always remember:

“That which does not kill me can only make me stronger.” – Tupac Amaru Shakur

By learning to take all the negativity that has and will continue to try to come into our lives we can generate something positive.
If we had to learn to crawl before we walked then it can’t be that much harder to change our approach to the problems that appear in our lives...Sounds pretty simple now...right?

As human beings we need to look at all the hardships that have EVER come our way and USE IT to help us move forward with our lives with a better frame of mind and spirit.

When things are hard we must remember the most important thing:

Life is EXTREMELY PRECIOUS!

We should be grateful for everything we have as some many people don’t even have the small things we seem to take for granted.

And...

There are always going to be obstacles that will make it difficult for us to cope after we have stumbled but with OUR inner strength and courage you CAN get through whatever life may throw at your way.

I’m not saying it is going to be an easy and simple process but if you believe in God (or any other higher power) turn to them to help you get through it.

In the following biblical extracts God shows how he is continually there for us.

"When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and through the rivers, they shall not overwhelm you; when you walk through fire you shall not be burned, and the flame shall not consume you" (Isaiah 43:2)

Even when we think he is not.
“I will never leave or forsake you”
(Hebrews 13:5)

The sooner we start believing that everything happens for a reason the easier it is for us to start
EMBRACING the mistakes we make...We learn the most and grow from the choices (good or bad) that we make in our life!

And...

I’m sure when you made that particular decision it seemed right at the time... “Welcome those big, sticky, complicated problems. In them are your most powerful opportunities.” – Ralph Marston

The quote below is my
FAVOURITE and I agree with it completely...

"I believe everything happens for a reason. People change so that you can learn to let go, things go wrong so that you appreciate them when their right, you believe lies so you eventually learn to trust no one but yourself, and sometimes good things fall apart so better things can fall together.” - Marilyn Monroe

Put yourself in someone’s shoes and you will see just how LUCKY and PRECIOUS your life is!

Counting the blessings you been given in life because not everyone is so fortunate.

Some things that happen in our lives are just small things but are made far more complicated than they actually need to be...
YOUR LIFE is what you make it!

Why Do We Need EXCITMENT to Be Happy?

Following an interesting wall-to-wall session with a friend of mine on Facebook I started wondering about the question above. You might think I’m exaggerating here but I’m not!

Seriously, look at it like this...

Have you not realised when everything is okay in your life you start complaining about how boring it is? (I know I do...)

I don’t know why it is like this but for some peculiar reason us human beings like TROUBLE! Or maybe you like me like to justify it by calling it EXCITMENT...

In my friend’s words: That is so true. 'Simple' don’t cut it in life.

He is so right and his words put it in the best possible way.
But what I don’t understand is why don’t the simple things in life make us happy anymore? So much so that when our lives are uncomplicated and straightforward we go out
LOOKING for TROUBLE?
It’s like we get bored with the simplicity of our existence and justify it to ourselves by saying things like “Everything is going okay in my life at the moment so that means something bad is going to happen soon”
Ermmmm...how about actually just being satisfied with how our lives are going instead of thinking about negativity that can ruin our positivity?

Remember ... (In the famous words of the Pussycat Dolls! Haha...Forgive the cheesy reference but I thought it was pretty funny)

“Be careful what you wish for because you just might get it”
This statement is completely true though....

Fair enough in life a bit of excitement is good for the soul and it does make life a lot more interesting BUT sometimes we as people get so bored that we go out of our way to create drama for ourselves. A classic example of this is an episode of Girlfriends (I was a HUGE fan of the show until they cancelled it *frown* )

In the beginning of Season Three entitled Coming to Terms...Toni decides that her life is getting very boring so decided to create her own "excitement" by inviting both her ex boyfriends to Joan’s Bring You Ex party. Now call me crazy but I remember her cheating on these men with each other so she must be bored ridiculously to create that amount of drama for some "excitement" in her life!
I know that was an extreme example but you are getting my drift with this...

This sense of excitement can be linked to relationships...Even when our partner is perfect for us in their unique way
SOME of us will still find a way of creating excitement (or if you are being truthful TROUBLE or DRAMA! )

We do this by creating pointless problems...
What I mean by this is within our happy, straightforward relationships (I know not all relationships work like this but for the purpose of this point they are!) we
LOOK for faults in our partners which equals TROUBLE!

“When you struggle with your partner, you are struggling with yourself. Every fault you see in them touches a denied weakness in yourself.” - Deepak Chopra

If our logic didn’t work like this we would probably get bored anyways and that is because IT’S ALL ABOUT EXCITMENT at the end of the day!

Although one thing we just need to remember next time we are looking for our next piece of “excitement" is...
You get what you wish for and you might not always like the repercussions of your choices(and actions) so be careful what you wish for!

I guess we just have to accept the only simple explanation for this mad roll coaster called "life" and that is we are ALL secretly twisted as human beings =)

Introducing.........Me!

Hi everyone!

I have wanted to start a blog for a little while now but got obssessed with having the “perfect” layout and other madness but after have some difficulties with this I FINALLY listened to the advice of my family members and have decided the most important thing to do is to first establish my blog then work on the layout at a later so until further notice this is a work in progress.

Moving on...

I would (and I know those closest to me will agree with this) describe myself as an opinionated person (sometimes it gets me into trouble but oh well such is life!) this combined with the fact that I like to think a lot as well about any and everything made me want to start blogging. I also LOVE WRITING!
Writing has always been my way of releasing my emotions when I am going through certain things in my life....

Everything Happens for a Reason...

I chose to use this title because I really do believe in this saying whether the events in your life are good or bad....just try and remember that as a way of keeping you positive. Things happen in our lives that don’t always seem justified but I guarantee it happened for a reason. Whether we actually like the reason is a completely different issue altogether...

So let me tell you a bit about myself....

My name is Gemma and I know I have already said this but I
LOVE to WRITE! Poems mainly but writing all the same. I also love reading as well. My favourite book has to be A Thousand Splendid Suns by Khaled Hosseini (if you haven’t read the book already, I strongly recommend it.) I read basically everything but I tend to read poetry and fictions.

What else?
Ermmm...

I love FASHION! (You are probably thinking what girl doesn’t?) I just find it really interesting how clothes can help people to define and express themselves to the world.

“In order to be irreplaceable, one must always be different.” Coco Chanel

I also have a HUGE fascination with the modelling industry especially the 90’s supermodel era featuring the big classical six: Claudia Schiffer, Cindy Crawford, Kate Moss, Linda Evangelista, Naomi Campbell and Christy Turlington.

I have always wanted to be a model but have finally accepted I can’t because of my height *sad face* but there most be some hope for me after America's Next Top Model has finally decicated a series to those 5"7 and shorter :D

America’s Next Top Model is my little addiction...I've seen all of them! (Anybody remember Eva the Diva?)

Some of my favourite models are Tyra Banks, Jourdan Dunn, Heidi Klum, Chanel Iman, Naomi Campbell, Gisele, Twiggy and Janice Dickenson...
As some of you may know not all of the individuals listed are still models and that’s because they are my blend of the old and new school.

I don’t know what else to really say about myself so just stay with me on my journey into my complex simplicity...

Con Amor,
